Introduction:
In today’s digital world, your personal brand is often your first impression. For new business owners like Ali Cherubini, a Registered Dietitian with a Master of Science in Dietetics and a BS in Psychology, establishing a strong, authentic visual presence is critical. Ali’s goal wasn’t just to launch her private practice; it was to connect with her ideal clients on a deeper level. She knew she needed professional photos that accurately represented her expertise and warm, approachable personality.
As her father, and owner of Epic Creative Co-Op, I wanted to help Ali achieve this goal, but I quickly realized my commercial photography style wasn’t the right fit. So, I called on Greg Shaw, an expert in “Lifestyle Photography” who regularly shoots at one of the Epic Creative Co-Op studios. This case study will detail the journey of planning and executing a successful personal branding photoshoot for Ali.
Understanding the Client’s Brand and Needs:
Before we even picked up a camera, it was crucial to understand Ali’s brand and the message she wanted to convey. Ali had already taken the first step, creating a mood board with her designer. This served as a crucial guide to ensure we were all aligned on her vision.
Key Elements of Ali’s Brand:
- Expertise: Professional Registered Dietitian (RD) with a background in psychology.
- Focus: Helping clients cultivate a healthier relationship with food, not just diet.
- Persona: Warm, approachable, and non-judgmental.
The goal was to capture a visual representation of these core elements, creating images that would resonate with potential clients.
The Mood Board Deep Dive:
Greg Shaw, an expert in “Lifestyle Photography” created his own Photography Mood Board based upon the initial meetings with Ali and her designer, to set the tone and direction for the shoot. This board includes photographic examples, lighting considerations, and general vibe that the photographs should capture.”
The Right Photography Style: Greg recognized that Ali’s desire for a more natural and relatable look called for lifestyle photography. This style would allow us to capture:
* Candid Moments: Showcasing Ali’s genuine personality.
* Environmental Context: Adding depth and narrative to the images.
* Storytelling: Weaving together a visual story of Ali’s work and values.
